Why choose fibreglass?
A GRP flat roof, or fiberglass roof as it’s most commonly known, is one of the most popular flat roofing solutions in the UK. GRP stands for Glass Reinforced Polyester, a composite material formed by strengthening plastic with fine fibres made of glass.
This single ply laminate has been used as a reliable means of covering and waterproofing roofs for over 40 years. As well as commercial and domestic buildings, GRP has been used on a wide array of other applications, from boats and lorries to water tanks and ponds.

GRP flat roofs begin with a layer of catalysed resin being applied to good quality, completely dry roof decking, ideally OSB3 wood. A layer of fibreglass matting is then laid on top followed by another layer of catalysed resin to complete the system. Once cured, a fire retardant gel coat is then applied to completely weatherproof the roof and give it a more attractive finish.

Cold Vs Warm Roof
In construction flat roofs are detailed as either warm roofs or cold roofs.
Warm roof
When the insulation layer is laid on top of the roof substrate or deck we call this a warm roof. This is because the roof structure and substrate are on the warm side of the insulation.
Cold Roof
When the insulation is fitted between the rafters / structure and the roof substrate or deck is fitted above the insulation it makes the roof a cold roof structure because the substrate is on the cold side of the insulation.
Do you need a warm or a cold roof?
To comply with Part L of the building regulations 2010, all roofs to rooms (except those in unheated buildings) should be thermally insulated to a maximum U-value of of 0.18
